Guest Blogs
From time to time, we invite selected special guests to contribute pieces which approach the themes which interest us from new and sometimes unexpected angles. These pieces are one-time or occasional contributions from activists whose perspectives or experience are different than ours. Instead of encouraging polemic or controversy, we view them as cooperative attempts to widen our collective point of view. We very much appreciate their participation in our project!
Howard Zinn:
"Should we not begin to redefine patriotism? We need to expand it beyond that narrow nationalism
which has caused so much death and suffering. If national boundaries should not be obstacles to
trade - we call it globalization - should they also not be obstacles to compassion and generosity?"
A Kinder, Gentler Patriotism.

Mark Zepezauer:
"But if the right loves America so much, why do they keep subsidizing
the corporations that foul our air, despoil our coasts, and clear-cut
our forests? Just how patriotic is the Bush administration's new rule
that allows mining companies to shear off the tops of our purple-
mountain'd majesty and dump them into our streams?"
Why the Right Hates America.
