After eating a pomegranate for the first time in years, an analogy occurred to me.

Political activism is like trying to eat a pomegranate: It is sensual, but time consuming, messy, full of seeds, and appears to offer few rewards. It can even leave a slightly bitter taste in your mouth. However, as medical research has shown, it is quite healthy (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pomegranate)
