Demonstrations as Narrative
Images of demonstrations: April 20, 2002 March and Rally, San Francisco
This was one of the more uplifting events we've attended in some while. Because of the
considerable turnout of "real people", the Palestinian community in particular.
We marched from Dolores Park to Civic Center Plaza, one of the traditional march & rally
routes in San Francisco. We're used to counting a crowd which fills Dolores Park as
25,000. This one came pretty close.
A spirited event, marred only-so-slightly by the usual provocateurs, waiting for us
as we arrived at the Civic Center. A tiny pro-Zionist counter-demonstration, a couple
of dozen hecklers who tried to taunt the young militants into attacking them. They
didn't. Police hustled the bad guys into City Hall for safe-keeping. There has to
be an irony there, somewhere.
