"Government should be run as a business"

Description: Resonates in popular consciousness as if to say, "Government should be thrifty and cost-conscious, like a mom and pop store."
Purpose: Mobilize voters to support destruction of social entitlement programs.
Example:
Anecdote:
Type: Positive
Contradiction: Real businesses are dictatorships, organized in rigid top-down hierarchies giving executives and board members all but unlimited power over the lives of employees. This is exactly not how government should be organized.

Comments

I'm afraid the takeover of government by business has already occurred. It's becoming obvious that the only beneficiaries of recent policy have been the largest corporations, most visibly the oil companies. So, instead of being "run as a business" it looks to me like our gov is inherently by big business, for big business, and of big business.
